Any umbrella, anyone recommends to you, There will be somebody who has had a bad experience with them and wants to slate them.

They all have their ups and their downs. They all make mistakes. Advise most people say is use an umbrella not a composite. Try calling there accounts department, not just the sales office.

Some companies its easy to get through to there sales team but when you have a genuine problem, You end up listening to hold music for hours on end.

    Check Insurances and certificates.

Never apply for Giant Group PLC

I will recommend contractors not to join GIANT Group PLC as they are the most unfriendly umbrella company. They will never provide any help in terms of employer ref or other related issues.

Based on personal experience, I would advise you to avoid Prosperity4 like the plague, and consider Parasol, who despite the wobble during their upgrade, have been excellent for me. Been with them for over 2 years, and have not personally had any problems. Paid on time, every time.

Don't you only get Professional Indemnity insurance included in fee's and have to pay extra for Public Liability & Employers Liability?

When I spoke to them it seemed that almost everything was done online and you very rarely get to speak to anyone.

I went with a company where I got the same business manager every time I called up, She even gives out her mobile number for emergencies. (haven't used it yet though.....)

          Choose wisely.

                Go Umbrella

I have been using Go Umbrella's services for a few months now and can confirm they offer an excellent service and a very competitive price. I looked at Giant , Prosperity4 and ParasolIt before opting for Go Umbrella.

Mate, I've been using a company called Highfordgroup for about five months now. They explained to me that no two contractors are the same and that we all fall into one of the three solutions, based on our own personal circumstances, the options were an Umbrella PAYE, Composite & a personal Limited Company. In the end I went for the Limited company option. (The main issue I was told was IR35). I was lucky seing that I am working from home, I am working on two contracts, and I am not working through a recruitment company. Hence I am not see as being employed. I am truly sefl employed. My retention is 85%, this slightly fluctuates based on my expenses. I have not had a problem up to now with payments, I fax a timesheet and promptly get paid direct into my account, and I receive an emailed payslip. All this for £30 per week. And they didn't charge me any set up charges for the company. (Gret Deal) What do you think???????
