do summary warrants affect a job offer?

    Hi.

I've recently just accepted my first ever contracting role. During the interview there was mention of a credit check, which at the time I was Told the check is only to see if you have ccjs. I don't have any against Mr, never had, however I came hone tonight and there's a summary warrant in my letter box for a council tax bill from a few yesterday back. I can clear the warrant straight away, but will that affect my credit check and then chances of getting the job??

the contract is with rbs. It's kinda got me worried.

    Thanks

    G

Well, well, what a co incidence!

Yes, this will show up on any check since the ccj has been formally before a court and issued.
I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!

No it wont affect your credit check.

With a Summary Warrant for Council Tax the Local Authority takes a large bound file to the Sheriff Clerk with details of all the Council Tax accounts that the Council wants to pursue. The Sheriff signs a covering letter which allows the 10% surcharge and lets the Council do "dilligence" on the debt. There is no individual record held by the court.

Lots of people ignore bills they:
          1. don't agree with rather than taking the company to task, or,
          2. can't pay due instead of discussing it with the company
          because it's easier.

Both are very very wrong. One's credit history can take a really bad hit if these things get recorded there. Taking a hard line however and dealing with such things straight away is the best solution.

At most banks, you also have to declare whether there are any pending/current proceedings against you, so make sure the matter is absolutely closed before submitting your screening info. To do otherwise means you are probably committing a criminal offence - obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception, or whatever the recent version of that law is.

They already take a dim view to anything that happened 5 years ago, but anything current is likely to be a showstopper issue.

As a side note you really don't want to mess around with not paying your council tax as it is one of the few debts you can go to jail for.

                  All thanks for your replies.

The council tax bill was paid off today. It was down to my own stupidicy at the time (and back then lack of money) that I never paid it, however since that year i've been paying it fully and on time. As someone has mentioned buring your head in the sand, isn't the way to deal with things. As all i've done now is end up paying 10% more than i should have done.

Anyways, hopefully is will not affect me on any credit checks. If it does, then i've only got myself to blame!!
