The bigger concern is how to close down a company which has only just been set up and hasn't actually traded yet. Are there special rules for such cases - there must be people who set up a Ltd almost by accident, since it's so easy to do!

It does happen from time to time - someone starts a company, loses their contract and goes permie. If nothing at all has happened then it's a simple case of writing to HMRC to let them know and then submitting a DS01 to Companies House to strike off. Slight additional complications if you've already registered for VAT and PAYE as you have to close them down first, but it's just timing really.
