    Being offered a permanent position

I am currently a contract worker with hays, through an umbrella company. I was employed as paternity cover and kept on an extra month.

The company I am working for have a position (different from the one I am doing now, that they would like me to apply for.) I am being offered 20k a year for the new position
and hays wanted a pay off of 28% of salary for me to stay on.

The company offered £500, as a fee or they will go to market to fill the position.

A different position, can hays demand this>?

Is there anything I can do, eg walk out and end it early, would that nullify the contract so the company would be free to hire me again?

Help , I am not a big earner but the company cant afford 5k ro even the 2k hays negotiated down to? They would pay up to £500, but Hays wont budge.

Can any of you wise folks advise me? I do have other grievances with hays, such as enforcing me into using parasol, and daily rate begin paid is not what they are billing company etc. So I will
not use them again, so they could not use me as an asset.

It's normal for recruitment consultants to charge a percentage of salary when they fill a role, but 28% seems steep. I'd be expecting about 10% cheaper than that!

You'll have to read your contract to see what Hays are entitled to do. Often they can restrict you from going direct for a period of time - depending on if you opted in or out at the start.

There is a big sticky about it in the other section. REad this link and the links on the right...

BTW.... if my agent ruined my chances of getting a role I would go absolutely ******* ape tulip on them. £500 is better than nothing and to ruin your career for that amount is just disgusting. You want to go in there an demand to speak to the Hay regional guy and tear a strip of him. It sounds like they are trying it on with you so man up and take it to them.
