    Accountant Fees

I have an accountant, and this is normal I believe, now this accountant costs me 138 pounds a month and I think it's already
a little bit expensive but ok, if it does a good job I am prepared to pay such amount, now to write a letter explaining what I do, this guy
is going to charge me 180 pounds.
I am wondering, did I choose a very expensive accountant or I am too greedy?
He is the only accountant I've ever had and I can't compare with anybody else but probably people in this forum
got a lot more experience than me and I am sure I can get a proper answer.

    cheers

Try and do a search. Accounts fees and recommended accounts have been discussed in great detail many many times. There is a thread stelling you how to search in the welcome forum.

£138 seems high, £180 is excessive. General view is no more than £100 /month max for a good level of service. Search around as per previous suggestion but certainly look to move away from current accountant based on their proposed charges.

Eh? £180 to write a letter? what's in the letter? If it's a straight forward one then tell your accountant to wind their head in or you will sack them.

Agreed. A reference letter should be included in the fee if you're paying £115 pcm plus VAT. It's not as if it takes a massive amount of time, usually.

          What's the letter for?

It does seem very excessive to me as i would not dream of charging my clients £180 for a reference letter. But what is the letter for?

Most accountants will include the letter as part of the monthly fee.

I would ask him what the charge is for.

You know, I hear about this more and more, and I sure these kinds of 'extras' give a good boost to the accounting firms profits, but I'm with Clare on this one - it seems a bit unreasonable.

I pay £600 per year and have had the same accountant for 17 years.

He's never charged me for any 'extras' like mortgage references or, more recently, stupid bloody gap references for agents.

Find a small firm who is used to dealing with small LTDs rather than one of the 'names' known to contractors. you'll get a better service.

Mine was doing one man ltds in the oil industry a long time before IT contracting was in vogue.
