    Contacting and property rental

Okay, got my first contract but hate comuting...

The distance between home and new work location is 70+ miles. Not too bad - but 3 or 4 hours of my life a day I won't get back due to comuting.

Can I rent a property close to new work location as a contractor ? If so, what can I claim ? Is there a limit of rental cost ?
Is there an acceptable distance between home and work for comuting ?

Contract is six months. Was prepared to take the hit myself but if my Ltd company can assist in some way, then why not !!!

I've just come back from a year in London - claiming £450 a month in renting a room Monday to Friday. Plus train fares. Much cheaper than staying in a b&b or Hotel. Accounts have been signed off by my accountant so yes its legal. In hindsight - next time I'd rent full time - so I can travel down on a Sunday night and avoid the silly o'clock monday morning starts to get to my desk by 9ish.

I'd always assumed I could just like when I was a permie. i.e that when I used to get send away to Scotland for 3 months to a client site and could claim thousands a month in expenses as it was wholly work related.... I was less choosy about which hotel to stay in when spending someone else's money. We were allowed up to £100 a night. LOL. I'd never spend that now.

Likewise I used to get sent to Camberly - which was a lot closer, about 80 miles I think. I could sort of get home if I had to - for example to go and sort the wife out (not like that!). But usually stayed down M-F.

[edit]- Check Spareroom.com and airbnb.com if you wan to get cheaper accommodation. You are usually renting direct from the house owner and get a much more personal service than a business.

Am I right in thinking you can actually claim for 7 days a weeks and not just Mon to Fri. Can you also claim for electricty bills and the like - as well as council tax ?

Fella.. do a bloody search. This has been covered in great detail and you have to understand it not just get told it by a load of strangers on a forum. If you understand the difference vbetween business and personal stuff it will answer a load of stuff you have asked and what you will no doubt ask.

Read the newbies guide and the search sticky in the welcome thread.

You run a business now so you have to do some research and you have to run it.
