    BEWARE!! Paystream2000

I have just parted with this organisation and would warn anyone to be very carefull if using them.

I was lied to by the staff and management regarding receipt of payments and expense receipts, mileage payments were calculated and payed at a lower rate than should have been. The staff have little knowledge of accounting and when asked for advice they waffle or pass on the question to A another and you never get an answer. Payslips are vague to the point you cannot differentiate between hourly pay and expense payments, Client Chargeable mileage payments were taxed twice and I have not seen the money owed, I have never received VAT owed and my last pay was short of hours. Needless to say they are ignoring my e-mails and post.

PAYSTREAM 2000 are promoted as a reccomended preferred supplier by a large Recruitment agency and a lot of people get railroaded into using them for the supposed ease of use.

I have contact with other contractors using PAYSTREAM2000 most have a simillar story to tell and many are in the process of leaving.

I sought advice form Customs & Excise.

I have now parted company with them and set up my own company with a reliable firm of accountants.

    Be warned!

Thanks! I am still with them and having the same issues which you've experienced...

It's quite funny when the paystream receptionist is trying to give an advice on double taxation without knowing anything about it...
(she didn't let me talk to someone else.. despite my request)

        I need proper accountants!

Can I ask which firm are you using now... any recommendations...
        (I am based in London)

        Thanks
        DG

the general advice here is get your own Ltd (I know it's not always possible) + an accountant. SJD, 1st Accoutancy and Nixon Williams are generally the ones reccomended here.

I'd also advise you try and calculate how much you are owed, in simple terms this is Invoiced amount less their fees and anything you receive less Tax and NI.

Then go see a lawyer / CAB about how to get your money back.

Brian Hann is apparently one of the few at Paystream2000 who has a clue but is on holiday. There's a woman called Fabienne who makes the right noises and will get things done if push hard. Email format is firstname@paystream2000.com.

If you're not getting replies try mailing from another address. I strongly suspect (but currently cannot prove) if you're "difficult" your mail is filtered.

So Paystream2000 would seem not be recommended - are there any umbrella companies that you would recommend?

[QUOTE=Horby]I have just parted with this organisation and would warn anyone to be very carefull if using them.
                  QUOTE]

After being ripped off by regular accountants for years, I joined Paystream 4 years ago and have got nothing but praise for them.

Prior to that, I did all my own book-keeping and each year I had to field umpteen queries about VAT calculations, NIC, PAYE etc. from a junior. I also had to take time off every time the Inland Revenue or Customs & Excise wanted to check the books.

I find that Paystream takes all of this off my hands as well as resolving any IR35 issues.

I've seldom had any problems, and when I have, Brian Hann has always been ready to talk to me. (barring weekends and holidays).

I'm not disputing the veracity of the incident at the beginning of this thread, but would be very wary of taking this as typical.

                  Regards.
                  Gordon.

How did an umbrella 'resolve' your IR35 issues?
