    Easter This Weekend

Just to change the topic from internal bickering.............
I wonder, if true to form, we will receive brown envelopes from a certain Government body just in time for Easter............or maybe I'm just being cynical

Wouldn't suprise me if they see we're gaining some traction, so panic and start falling over themselves to send those letters out.

Well, we're well used to their kind pre-seasonal-event bollox, so who cares

Main thing is, whatever they say and however they say it, not a penny leaves our coffers, not a soul files for bankruptcy until the fight is truly exhausted, be it tribunals, MPs, ECHR, etc, etc. So, some may ask Hector: "why waste the paper?!"
Lord Clyde in 1929: ‘No man is under the smallest obligation, moral or other, so to arrange his legal relations to his business or to his property as to enable the Revenue to put the largest possible shovel into his stores. The Revenue is not slow to take every advantage which is open to it under the taxing statutes for the purpose of depleting the taxpayer’s pocket. And the taxpayer is entitled to be astute to prevent, so far as he honestly can, the depletion of his means by the Revenue.’

Of course they will. This is how it works, they post them this Wednesday (dated last week) so they turn up Thursday, 4 days of weekend/bank holidays and hey presto, 2 weeks gone from the appeal window.

Quite right, irritability as a result of a combination of a late night and a bad morning neither of which were drink related, unfortunately.

And I think you are totally right about the brown envelopes too.

Osborne to challenge India tax plan

              What can I say!

THE CHANCELLOR is to challenge an Indian tax plan that could hit Vodafone and other western companies with a retrospective tax bill of billions of pounds.

On his visit to India today, George Osborne is to make the case against New Delhi's decision to backdate CGT on corporate acquisitions, warning that it could jeopardise local investment by UK companies, reports the FT.

A Treasury spokesman said: "This is an issue that concerns many British businesses and not just Vodafone," as it emerged that Kraft and SABMiller would also be affected.

Global business lobbying organisations including the CBI and the US Council for International Business wrote to the Indian government expressing their "deep concerns" about the decision, which they said would make it hard for companies to predict the future cost of doing business in India.

                  Oh, the irony of it!

The UK loves telling other countries what to do, despite doing the same thing in their own back yard. A case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Its information like this that puts Osborne and Co in a very difficult position - if its not ok for a FTSE100 company, then why is not ok for us?
