    Online VAT Returns

How totally sh*te is the HMRC website for submitting your VAT returns online. Totally unhelpful, passwords never work, crap navigation and taking 5 times as long as filling in the form manually. Rubbish

I used to find putting the right password in worked for me! But the rest of your comments I agree with. Thankfully, this time Im refraining from registering for VAT until I start nudging the threshold.

I've never had a problem with it before - use the right password, enter the right figures, click submit. File the PDF away when it comes back, pay by direct debit.

I wouldn't say it was rubbish, just a bit odd. Mainly the way if asks for your password once when you log in, and then again after you've submitted the form, for "extra security". But also the sheer number of security questions it makes you set up when registering; and the bit after you've submitted the form that says something like "HMRC is waiting for confirmation from HMRC that the form has been received"

Just wondering how come you're not registering? Surely there's good money to be made from the FRS?

Odd and completely unintuitive... or maybe I just wait till too late at night to properly concentrate on it!

I totally hate the 'not-so' single sign on government gateway system.
I had to reset a password once on HMRC site, but I could only reset it on the DVLA site where it was issued. Hopefully they've fixed that one now.

Also due a similar not-so centralised nature of the system (this was about 4-5 years ago mind), it managed to issue me with more than one ID and passoword combo by using different .gov.uk sites.

I've always found it very easy to use. I also like the extra month the cash sits in my account.
