Receipts for food expenses whilst working

My Accountants advised me to keep receipts for food from takeaways, supermarkets etc whilst I am working as I could claim for them. Therefore I have been dilligently accrueing a pile of receipts and marking them down in the expenses spreadsheet my Accs provide. Then the other day another Contractor here said to me that I need not do that and that his Accountant just lets him claim a flat rate of £20 a day for meals/food etc. When I asked my Accountants if I could do this they said no. Any reason why? And who is right? Mine are a big firm used to dealing with IR35 whereas his guy is a one man band in his hometown - but to be fair to him he's been doing this for years so it must be ok by HMRC or at least they havent questioned it.

Keep doing what you're doing - keep receipts for anything you buy, and never claim more than the actual amount you spend.

Your friend may have been fine doing it his way, but that might simply mean he's never been investigated and found to be doing anything wrong.
