It doesn't really. It's just nice to see that arrogant bastard being brought down a peg or two.

In some ways the PAYE cockup actually works against us because, despite the fact that like BN66 it's all a result HMRC's own incompetence, the Government are broadly supporting them.

However, hopefully the Treasury Committee might heap a load of criticism on them.

Hartnett & Co are up before the Treasury Committee this morning. The "interrogation" started at 10.30.

Why does the first post say updates in Red and last update 10th September when nothing is highlighted in RED?

Fascinating! I'm sure that we were told that interest was a matter of statute and that HMRC had no discretion or powers to waive interest charges...?

Actually, Slobbo, the word "red" is highlighted in red and so is the date.
Personally, I was puzzled as to why the whole phrase "(any new updates will be highlighted in red)" was not highlighted in red....

A new concession will mean many people facing the highest demands for back-tax will not face interest payments.

Those given time to pay more than £2,000 in underpaid tax will now have interest waived - in line with those with smaller demands, MPs were told.

Do we have a precedent set here? Can we legally demand equal treatment?

sounds like it to me!!!! interesting, so there is no legal obligation for HMRC to charge it...

another interesting comment by Hartnett on answering a question about can people pay over longer than 3 years...Hartnett: Yes, we have procedures called Time to pay in place that can be used where appropriate

                      hmmmmm
