Cant see anything to do with Co Ho being nothing to do with accountants BTW.

Yes that why most contractors do it- it saves you the trouble of forwarding on what is generally for your accountant to deal with anyway.

Registered Office Address & Change Of Name

        contractor79

For change of name you might find this link to companies house website useful

You have to pass a resolution, prepare new memornadums and articles of association and send a cheque for £10 to companies house.

Change of address for directors and the registered office address is also easy, you can do them online if you are registered with companies house, or you can download the forms from the companies hosue website.

Doing this type of work is quite often included in the work done by accountant, and does not really affect the company from the MSC point of view, as long as the client company has made the decision to change the name and address.

HMRC guidelines on MSC regs also mention the registered office address provided by accountants is not a factor that determines the accountant as an MSC.

IMHO we have most of our clients with their Registered Office at their homes, their place of business. We lose out on a £75 a year fee for holding it at our address, but we prefer it that way. Just our way of working I guess, the reasons behind it are:-

        1. Client is obviously running their business from home and this is clearly the case where the registered office is at home.
        2. The home address used by the client is available to HMRC in many different ways, and also available for public record, albeit paid for.
        3. The client is responsible for the actions of the company anway, and so it makes sense ( to us ) for any legal notices to be served to the clients address.
        4. Staffing companies quite often like their contracts addressed to the company at their registered office address, I am not a great fan of contracts being addressed to a company at a registered office address of the accountants.

In summary - two reasons a) accountability b) independence

          I sit corrected.

I honestly could not see any benefit in having my accountant do any of this for me (and I have done it before - changes of address, co name and directors) when all you have to do is log on to the companies house website and fill in a webform.

Well blacjac I agree with you, some of our clients are happy to do this, but some are not and do not want to be registered with companies house.

Your right, the forms are eay to do and the online systems are easy to use.

You could call your company something like Tax Fiddlers Limited. The HMRC would never believe that anyone fiddling their tax would call a company that and they will leave you alone.

                    That makes more sense

For a minute there I thought some of your clients might have been of the concrete boot sales variety!

You might find that the reason many people who have their Registered Address at their accountants is that they are in rented accommodation.

Most short hold tenancy agreements forbid the formal running of a business from the premises (something to do with extra insurance I expect).
