funny enough, not quoting the usual £200m, but not far off...maybe £175m will become the new yardstick by which all taxation legislation is justified!!!

I wonder if he has even considered the fact some people wont bother with landlines soon, a whole swathe of people are dumping their landlines as mobile broadband delivers greater and greater bandwidth...I work in Telecoms and mobile is the way forward, fixed line is dying and fast for all but indsutry strength applications...ISDN, fixed line etc....And now Three have just launched mobile Wifi, who needs something plugged into a wall anymore....is he then gonna start trying to tax mobiles?? I'd say you're about 10 years too late Timms old chum...

heres some facts Timms, not really that hard to find:

Read the end of this for his valuable quote:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8270772.stm

"Nothing has been derailed. It is full steam ahead,". Digital Britain hey Timms? Then what has steam got to do with it? Just shows how he's got his finger on the pulse...

I can just see the headlines:

"Labour delivering steam technology to all homes in the UK, the era of a new steam driven technology for all"....

sorry I know its off topic but couldnt resist!

Guys - all this talk has made me check my gateway.gov.uk account and still nothing there for me .... But I have noticed that it says that I dont have an agent authorised

            So question is
            (1) Should I get MP on as my Agent
            (2) Do others have MP on - if so how did you do it

            Many thanks

Following my hassles with the legal notices, I spoke to someone at the HMRC who advised me that Montp were not listed as my agent. I spoke to Montp who sent me a form '64-8' with the relevant sections filled in. Simply sign it and send it to HMRC and Montp will be registered as your agents and able to discuss your tax affairs directly with HMRC.

                      Size does matter...

Here is an extract from the Commons debate on BN66 in May 2008:

                      http://www.publications.parliament.u...m/80522s01.htm

"It [HMRC] did not see evidence that such schemes were being used until 2001. However, their use has increased sharply in the past year, which is why we are acting now. "

So there it is. HMRC new about the scheme in 2001 but only passed retrospective laws when enough people were involved. So, according to "them", you can break the law providing only a few do it and nothing will happen. And there was me thinking that the law was the law and you could arrange your affairs knowing it will be applied at the time such transactions took place. Didn't hear anything about "but we'll change this stance if enough people do it". Excellent!
