The tax inspector is a Mrs. Jacquie Coulthard.

Anyone know who this bird is? Is the new Brannigan?

        The Ode of Greedy Gordy

Tax his land, tax his bed,
Tax the table at which he's fed.

Tax his tractor, tax his mule,
Teach him taxes are the rule.

Tax his work, tax his pay,
        He works for peanuts anyway!

Tax his cow, tax his goat,
Tax his pants, tax his coat.

Tax his ties, tax his shirt,
Tax his work, tax his dirt.

Tax his tobacco, tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.

Tax his cigars, tax his beers,
If he cries tax his tears.

Tax his car, tax his gas,
Find other ways to tax his ass

Tax all he has then let him know
That you won't be done til he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers; tax him some more,
Then tax him til he's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin, tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he's laid.

Put these words upon his tomb,
'Taxes drove me to my doom ...'

When he's gone, do not relax,
It's time to apply the inheritance tax.

We had absolutely no national debt, had a large middleclass, and Mum stayed home to raise the kids.

What happened? Can you spell 'politicians?'

And I have to 'press 1' for English!?!?!?!?

The higher-ups in HMRC decided to centralise the double tax enquiries, and pull them back from the local offices, presumably because they were making so many mistakes and not getting the CNs out quickly enough.

Middlesborough got 75% of the cases; Manchester got 25%. All of Montp's cases have been moved to Middlesborough.

So, Montp clients won't be hearing from Brannigan again.

              Interesting.

But the compliance office in Middlesbrough are doubtless aware of the JR. So why are they persisting with the shirade of sending out CNs?

And more to the point, they know they will be appealed, so what's with the bully boy, notice of intended legal proceedings, tactics, as with Boycie?

Can something be done to nip this in the bud after all, this whole episode is stressful enough without being threatened with bailiffs.

Completely agree. This has really p*55ed me off. Surely this is clearly a breach of my human rights! In one letter they say I have the right to appeal the closure notice but then issue legal proceedings a couple of weeks later. All mainly because it is run out of different tax offices who don't talk to each other and backlogs with opening the mail etc. Given they've sat on the whole thing for so long, surely any court would recognise that they have not allowed sufficient time for my appeal to be received and processed. Would be interesting if a Court Order could be issued to prevent HMRC from using these bully boy tactics, esp as the Middlesborough office must now know all montp CNs will be appealed.

I have had a few from there, the latest one is saying that I have been randomly selected to have my 07-08 return rechecked??!! I have passed it on to degraff to get a response. Bit you would think they would stop all this nonsense till the JR is sorted
Politicians are wonderfull people, as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, like working for a living!

Debt collection is a separate branch of HMRC. They see closure notices have gone out and, for one reason or another, don't have visibility of the appeals, so they just plough ahead with enforcement action.

I know it's not much consolation when you're on the receiving end, but this is a case of cockup rather conspiracy

you gotta love Timms, ahh bless him....more tax:

                      http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8270772.stm

funny enough, not quoting the usual £200m, but not far off...maybe £175m will become the new yardstick by which all taxation legislation is justified!!!

I wonder if he has even considered the fact some people wont bother with landlines soon, a whole swathe of people are dumping their landlines as mobile broadband delivers greater and greater bandwidth...I work in Telecoms and mobile is the way forward, fixed line is dying and fast for all but indsutry strength applications...ISDN, fixed line etc....And now Three have just launched mobile Wifi, who needs something plugged into a wall anymore....is he then gonna start trying to tax mobiles?? I'd say you're about 10 years too late Timms old chum...

heres some facts Timms, not really that hard to find:
