Sounds stupid but; If we loose

Option A - You loose your house and are made bankrupt
    Option B - Bankrupt
Option C - You may double your money and be able to pay HMRC or....you are bankrupt

In fact...Option C seems like the best idea!! Who's in?
There is a fatal flaw with your option C. It assumes we are going to lose.

If we win the case but you've lost everything in Vegas where does that leave you?

    Option D

Now, if a Bookie was prepared to offer even odds on us winning the JR then I'd be first in the queue.

If we lost the JR, then I've lost all my money (nothing left for HMRC)

If we win the JR, then I've doubled my money tax free (and still nothing for HMRC)

I just pray that we win. If we don't it is more than bankruptcy for me. I work in the Risk industry and if I have a sniff of financial or criminal insobriety to my name I will get no further work. Contract or permanent. In all probability I will end up in government provided housing being paid Job Seekers for a very very long time. So instead of recouping taxes our great and glorious labour government will end up paying to support my family and I until I can re-train. Probably end up driving taxis or something equally exciting to pay back my tax bill.

        Here's another option:

You sell everything, convert your money to diamonds and disappear to Panama.

Of course you are joking. No-one who actually was planning that would be silly enough to post it on here.

Of course, not civilised enough for me. If I had the money, I'd prefer Monaco.

Just had a thought, following on the mortgage questions.

If you are applying for a mortgage do you have to declare that you are in a tax dispute and disclose the potential liability?

I wouldnt have thought so, unless there was a specific question asking about it.

It's not a debt unless we lose the JR.

                    How quickly

If we lose the JR, how quickly will HMRC send the balifs to collect the £££, i would have to sell my house etc, but that could take months, would they just take the house and throw me and my family out the day after?
