I think Kashflow is similar. By "generating by hand" you mean you just knock them up in Word and upload them to freeagent? I guess ideally I want to keep track of everything in the app including the invoice attachments and a record of the email being sent to the A/P contact etc

e-conomic seems to handle multicurrency and is quite cheap for low volumes of transactions, but I can't seem to find a lot of feedback on it.

      .
Well, generating by hand isn't strictly accurate. I use blinksale.com to generate my non-GBP invoices but I create the equivalent GBP invoice in Freeagent.

I used to use excel for invoice generation but am now using MS Accounting and I find it more convenient now and you can change the layout for the print out quite easily or have many templates.
We’re given little to no time for proper analysis and design, and, when we ask management about hiring professional testers and setting up a QA process—well, I’ve seen deer in my headlights look less stunned

There's no way on the planet I would allow an online service to hold my accounts...

You two certainly aren't alone in feeling that way - not by a long shot.

                Can I ask why not?

I would prefer to be in control of my personal information rather than have it sitting online. I guess there is the same chance that both my machine and an online server can be hacked... but my gut says keep this information from an online service. So to answer the question - its just my gut feeling.

Never quite understood this - why do you consider your business accounts to be "personal information"? Surely it all becomes public information eventually...

Email is far more likely to contain personal or sensitive information but people have been happily using that for a long time.

I've recently started using a desktop time tracking/invoicing/timesheet app called Fanurio: http://www.fanuriotimetracking.com/

Its simple, easy to use and relatively cheap and gets my thumbs up. Also runs on my Mac too. I have a load of small clients and this is perfect for that.
