    HMRC late payment what happens?

I made a banking c*ck up, usually I pay my NIC and Tax setup to auto pay on the 12th of the month but was filing online and checking back the amounts i paid in the last 12 months to find some months didn't pay. I've paid it straight away but obviously its now late, will I get a a fine?

Note to self: check the bank statements properly in future!

Although it is normally paid monthly or quarterly, I don't believe there is any interest due if all paid by 19th April after end of year.

      That is not the case.

I once made one of the monthy payments late and at the end of the year they send me a demand for interest on that payment.

You are right. They never applied it to me, obviously these rules are for lesser mortals.

How do you find out if you're supposedly to be paying it monthly, quarterly or bi-annually?

I never got any notification and after catching up on payments I have been paying it monthly via internet (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/payinghmrc/paye.htm#3)

If you pay less than a certain amount a month (1500 I think) you can opt to pay quarterly
