      A few options for you:
Nixon Williams Accts + Ltd Co formation = ~£70 pcm. Two days to setup.
Abbey Business Banking - free business banking for life. ~2 weeks to setup.
VAT registration. ~3 months for registration to come through.

Some may say go umbrella..I say don't bother unless you're planning to contract for the very short term.

..and if you've not already done so, read this: http://www.contractoruk.com/first_timers/index.html

Go to the Professional Contractors Group at linky and follow "Guide to Freelancing" link.

Give them your email address and they will send you a 50-ih page .PDF that will tell you more than you ever thought you ever needed to know.

Read it, then come back here with any remaining questions.

Don't believe the hype. At the very least you should do your own books too.
Accountants that claim todo "everything for you" should be handled with care IMO.

SJD & Nixon Williams probably have the lions share of the market on here.

                Yup,

SJD are good if a little expensive and "re-active". I'm considering giving Nixon Williams a bash purely because they're £30 a month cheaper

the linky appears broken - just get a blank popup when I press on it, seems to be linking to http://ad.uk.doubleclick.net/clk;210341530;32008383;l - anyone else managed to get it work?
