    Mileage claim

I am contracting in Manchester and live in Sheffield.

The shortest route (35 miles - Woodhead A628) takes 2 hours to drive, but I can get there in just over an hour by taking the M1, M62 - 70 miles.

Can I claim tax on the mileage for the route that I actually take, or am I only allowed the shortest route?

What time of the morning do you travel!? Takes longer than that to clear Leeds on the M62, just like a big car park!!

The increased mileage is justified and can be claimed.

      Thanks.

I leave at 7:00 and join M62 around 7:20. Get to work about 8:15.

Snake pass is fairly quick route because it's short, should take about the same time (1hr 15) and is much less miles. I used to do it reg from mid cheshire to Sheff used to take 1hr 40 and 30 mins of that was from manchester to cheshire
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Concur. If good reason a longer route is ok. IR say that somewhere either booklet 480 or 490.

It's the route between where the Snake and Woodhead join, and the city centre that takes all the time. I've tried the woodhead, the snake, the route through ChapelEnLeFrith and M1-M62. All except the last route take over 2 hours at busy times.

Gentlemen, pass your motorbike test then by a Yamaha R1 and never worry about how long it takes to get to work.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

Is that because you won't be alive long enough to worry?
