Now if the JCHR report back to MP's with serious concerns then HRMC will really be in a corner

          Hear Hear.

There is a long way to go and I remember well the JR on IR35 but the effort our friends at HMRC have put in to trying to avoid this JR is refreshing as they obviously would like to have avoided it, and the publicity it brings.

              Report from the front-line

              Just spoke to Emigre...

Our barrister was the dogs whatsits. He gave an outstanding presentation of the case.

HMRC tried to pull the "you're one day late" stunt. Our QC immediately jumped on that quoting some recent HoL ruling. In any case, the Judge said he would have granted an extension anyway.

Emigre said you had to be there to appreciate how it went. Our case was strong and HMRC didn't have much to counter it. They even came up with some arguments that were contrary to what they said in the PwC hearing. They were clearly clutching at straws.

The Judge gave the ruling immediately without retiring to consider his decision. His closing remarks were:

The public interest would not be served by denying Huitson his day in court.

As an aside, I will be making contact again in the next couple of days with the JCHR to inform them that the JR has been granted.

And finally, there were some glum faces on the HMRC side as they trudged out of the courtroom.
