I registered on an excellent property website a couple of months ago (Zoopla!) that very kindly emails me every month and tells me how much my house has fallen in price.
I just slipped into negative equity.
Bring it on Brannigan, I've nowt to give...... woohoooooo
I'd just like to say thanks - I'd not heard of Zoopla, and having just had a look around on their website am quite glad you mentioned it!
I followed up the initial quick response I got from my MP (Jeffrey Donaldson) with an email link to the petition. He replied with an email saying that he will be taking time to study and note the detail on the petition and the people affected. He finished by saying that he would continue to press for a response. The petition will let him see how many people are affected (550signatures in a couple of week! Good job DR ). I think that gives a bigger impact than just the letter on its on.
Indeed. The petition will never persuade the Government, even if we did get 2000 signatures, but it proves to MPs that we are not making it up when we say that many hundreds are affected.
fired off a chaser today to Stephen Hammond (Con) as he doesnt seem to have had a response from the Treasury.
added a section asking if he would accept it if MP's expenses rules were changed retrospectivley - I hoped that thought might focus his mind on our problem for a minute or two.
I'm still a lurker - mainly because while I have been with Mont for a number of years, I've yet to be issued a CN requesting what HMRC consider owed money.
I know that I don't owe them a bean as everything I did was perfectly legal at the time of doing it, and retrospective legislation is irrelevant in the real world of how much money I actually have (borderline equity - not positive or negative by more than a few quid at the minute) and how much money they think they will get.
So I will continue to lurk up until such time as HMRC decide that I too should join the ranks of accused time-machine induced tax evaders, when in actual fact I am just a law abiding intelligent tax planning contractor who doesn't take sh*te at work (hence being a contractor and not having to deal with HR departments and normal work politics), and damn well won't take sh*te from government departments either.
I'm also sensible enough not to run around the field in front of the castle (my house) with a target painted on my chest (talking to MPs, signing petitions, posting personally identifiable information on this forum, etc) when an illegal, immoral and corrupt invading army (HMRC) are trying to attack.
Let them fire the first arrow in the form of a letter containing a CN my way - then they will find that arrows are so last millennium***.
*** Note for the paranoid (i.e. HMRC squealers that go to the Police thinking they have a physical threat) - I'm not meaning I will reply with actual physical force, but I will get very vocal and become a squeaky wheel in need of oiling until such time as oil is applied
Mice squeak right? So I could be considered capable of being 'squeaky'...
This is my official announcement that I'm not de-lurking. Yet.

PS. No offence but it also confirms that the people affected are "ordinary", not bankers, celebs or fat cats.
The only name some might recognise is Geoff Jones of Arctic Systems but only because he also felt the heavy hand of HMRC.

like your style dude, you are amongst the few who are excused from petition signing etc.. good luck
So, on what grounds have the Tories committed to reversing retrospective tax on ports when they are not equally committed to reversing Section 58?
Seems to me that it doesn't make the Tories any better than Nu Liebor. If they are going part way wouldn't it make more sense for them to pass legislation adopting the "Rees Rules". If every group injured by retrospection goes for a JR and the ECHR the cost to the public purse will be enormous and completely unconscionable. The word "proportionate" comes to mind.
The saddest thing is that when we win you can guarantee that none of the bad press will sit with Jane Kennedy. She should be removed from office and made to work for free until all costs have been recoveerd for this waste of time.
