Some MPs take forever, and they've just got back from a 10 day recess (holiday). If he was Labour, then I might suspect it had been filed in the bin but as he is Tory he should welcome the opportunity to take a swipe at the Government.

Give him another week or so, then hit him again.

I have got a newer version of the letter if you fancy trying a different approach.

        HMRC Response:
So let me get this straight. We the public have to keep all our financial records for 6 years in case the revenue want to poke their nose into our business, but they don't have to keep records at all?! One rule for one......

If they do have them (which I suspect they do) and they are just using delaying tactics, is there any way to force them to reveal the data using the Freedom of Information Act?

There is a hand written postscript saying that he has enclosed a copy of the debate on the clause in which he spoke.
Good stuff. David Gauke is Stephen Timms opposite number on the Tory front bench. Coincidentally, I have just written to him in his capacity as "Shadow Minister for the Treasury", providing him with some more ammo to hurl at Timms.

I have also just fired off a scathing letter to Timms himself.

just had a rough night with the missus. she came off an evening shift, knackered, and we started talking about the situation, and about
the likelihood that we will be bankrupted. she cant get her head round it, something I did 6 years ago coming back to hurt us like this. she kept saying I'm not going to go there, we'll pay our due whatever... but me saying, we may have no choice, its isnt up to me... if we cant pay they'll bankrupt me anyway,,,

these people really are scum, dont they understand its real people they are hurting, just to cover up their own bloody mistakes. I f**ing hate them.

            she doesnt deserve this

            sorry... bit p****ed

I bought a house three years ago, new child and wife in tow, and mortgaged to the hilt in Brown's brave new world of "no more boom and bust". That phrase of purest hubris will now, rightly, haunt him to his grave.

If HMRC win this I will have no choice but to sell - and houses in my area have dropped 40% since I bought. The last house to sell here took a year to do so.

Meanwhile, Gordon Brown's mate Fred Goodwin runs a bank into the ground with the largest corporate loss in British history, yet is REWARDED with a £12,000 per week pension starting from age 50.

His bank's downfall was in large part down to its expensive purchase of ABN Amro, which it almost lost to Barclays.

But is Barclays a brilliantly run bank? No, it simply dodged a bullet by luck alone when it lost the ABN Amro bid by a whisker. British banks are characterised by their ability to make money in rising markets. Genius.

This country is a basket case. Perhaps losing the house will be the final impetus I need to leave this place.

I feel sorry for my new baby daughter who will inherit Gordon Brown's mess.

I too am mortgaged to the hilt, but hoping the Judicial Review and subsequent European Court of Human Rights cases wil drag on for many many years.

If by some small chance HMRC win, it will be at a time when Britain is bankrupt and my house will be worth nothing to them

But I really do think we will win the case. HMRC know they dont have a leg to stand on.

Indeed, the battle isn't over yet. I have every faith HMRC will prove their incompetence once more.
