If only. I bet their hourly rates make ours look like peanuts.

I wonder if they pay their "fair share" of tax?

I've just read the letter from Montp. The first statement from HMRC for why their retrospective legislation doesn't go against the human rights law was so funny I literally laughed out loud. HMRC's incompetent barristers will be made to look extremely foolish in court . I'll be booking my day off work to lap up their humiliation from the back of the court.

Doesn't mean we'll win of course, but this kind of idiocy from their best legal representation doesn't bode well for them.

Their only hope is to offer a gong to the judge for the right result.

A guy I know is the financial manager for barristers' chambers. (Not tax barristers). He looked at the MP scheme on their behalf.

So, yes, barristers do look at ways of paying their "fair share" of tax.

The report from the commoms committe debating clause 55 is very interesting and informative. It shows just how much intelligent debate took place on clause 55. Those opposing the clause seemed to win the argument but parliament with its lapdog majority still voted to keep it in.

DR, the report finishes at a tantalising point in the debate over the Padmore case. Can you find the report which covers the next days proceedings.

I felt a lot happier after receiving the letter from MP. Keeping us informed like that definitely calms my nerves.

I'll have lots of time to go to the JR in the new year as I'm a free man after Xmas and there doesn't seem to be much work going at the moment!

Just popping my head above the parapet since I have just received my CN. Thanks for all the previous posts - been lurking for a while and all very useful.

I want my xmas cheer letter from MontP .
Only 1 out of 5 (at clientco) have received it, and '1' keeps forgetting to bring it in and show the rest of us - damn tease.

Have many others received/not received it?

Are you all actively using montp? It is possible it takes a time to send out 1500/2000 letters : or royal mail messed up?

Might be best to phone IOM office and ask when sent.

I have my copy and scanned in : is there any harm in posting it up here? Is there anything that might help HMRC?
