Year end accounts - How long to prepare?

I'm currently with SJD and have informed them that i want to change to Nixon Williams.

My company annual return is in a queue, and it will take two months for them to even start the review.

I'll have to continue to pay SJD for two extra months until they finish my August annual return.

Is it normal to take this long to complete/start?

It's annoying that I'll pay my next accountants to review the same overlapping 2 months.

As has been said on here many times, the monthly fee does not cover a months worth of accountancy work. Its the annual bill / 12 for easy payment.

The reality is that they probably only have to click a button on their system to generate the accounts.

      QB.

Don't they have a turnaround commitment? We provide draft accounts within 20 dys of getting the information in. (or your money back, folks)

I needed mine for a mortgage, it took Stilwell gray 2weeks from when I sent them in, they even apologised for the delay...

That sounds about right. Year end accounts for a contractor really aren't complicated and should be turned around very quickly if required.

Yes and the reality is also that those generated accounts are wrong anyway,
              so check everything yourself.

                Direct from SJD's webpage

"Preparation of Company Year-End Accounts to be produced within 30 days of us receiving all the relevant information from you."

                  Ah! contractor accounts! Bliss.

Unlike a small sales company where you have unpaid items and written off items, wholesalers who pay according to their own sales and not your invoices, currency conversions, bank accounts, petty cash accounts, Paypal accounts and Worldpay accounts where transfers to bank are net of charges, stock accounting where your partner gives away samples and doesn't record it and the suppliers put extra ones in the box without telling you how many. Takes bleedin' ages!
