Perhaps other tax offices are sending them out anyway.

This is very interesting. I for one would rather they issue notices
as at least it means they have completed thier investigation.
If they hold them open, I can just see them coming up with another
ridiculous 'clarification' to try and raise the cash.
Or maybe they just can't be bothered ...Comment

[QUOTE=helen7;652168]Does anybody know if any other tax avoidance scheme's have been investigated in the last few years (i.e., not the IOM one, the loan and EBT based ones).
We were involved with a nother scheme with Mont P. it was a successor to the EBT scheme.
Everything was filed on time but 3 years later it was investigated by HMRC and eventually Mont P and after some discussion they recommended we settle. Total cost circa £100,000.Comment

Agreed though - get the CTD - try to forget about it as much as is possible - possibly even write it off in your mind and if we win - see it as a bonus. .
I know that it isn't possible for a lot of people to get the cash together (I am one - although I am luck (?) that my bank has agreed to a remortgage which will cover most of the cash I require) - but seems to be a good option even to funnel as much as possible into one.
It would help if we had some way we could assess our chances of winning. The interest is small on the CTD if we win - would other investments be better - especially now?? Probably not. I don't know. CTD is at least safe. It would seem. Isn't it?
At least the interest wil be +ve not like an investment in equities !Comment

I was told recently that Montp had never lost a tax avoidance investigation case.Comment

Some interesting news just sent to me...
The governments of the UK and the Isle of Man entered in to an exchange of information agreement on 29 September. There are also going to be amendments to the double tax agreement with the IoM, but I do not have details of what these may be. The times are a changing….Comment

It was 2007 and the top and bottom of it is that Mont P said we they said the case would probably be lost and recommended that we accept an offer to settle.Comment
