Happy with HSBC. They charge average 3 quid a month for assorted bits and bobs, and I think £30/year for their charge card. They've never messed up in the 8 years I've had the account, and you get access to a savings account and deposit bonds.

I was with RBS but have now switched to Cater Allen. RBS started adding on additional charges and it was becoming expensive. Their credit card was also crap and charged £35/pa and I still had to phone customer service on 0871 numers (cha-ching). I like the CA debit card as I always paid the balance in full on the RBS credit card anyway. And..the RBS account paid no interest either.

Another vote for CA from me. The 6 month card thing's rubbish - I got one after about 2-3 months. Being a private bank they are always very polite and helpful and the statements come on lovely thick paper.

Another vote here for Cater Allen.

Before you get the debit card it is no great trouble to pay with your own card and then expense the costs to yourCo.

The minimum £5K balance is waived if you apply through several of the well known accountants, and also some well known contractor websites - see here http://www.contractoruk.com/money/fr...k_account.html

                Cool

Yes I didnt realise about the 5k thing, So by the time I found out I applied to Abbey, who are proving difficult to get set up with as I provided an original document and not a photocopy.

When will these people learn to apply common sense from time to time ?

I use Lloyds TSB offshore in Jersey. I work a lot on the mainland and they have accounts in Euro, GBP and Dollars all with credit cards.
It means I dont pay charges getting my money back to the UK and I dont get stiffed by exchange rates when the invoice gets paid.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

I'm with Abbey but must admit that I liked the charge card I had with the HSBC as it provided a usefull buffer when funds were low. Plus Abbey take a working day to pay money from one Abbey account into another Abbey account and Abbey, despite being one of the members of the faster payments scheme have not yet implemented it.
