Yes because one person will have less cars on the road, bins to empty, medical needs and fires than 10,000 contractors. But I tell you what. 1 contractor on an offshore scheme paying 5% tax is better than 10,000 lazy ar£se incapacity benefit people (excluding the guenuine of course). -
Yes and look at how much investment there is in the UK and imagine how much more there would be given a more relaxed tax regime. It would be interesting to model the UK as it is and with a more tax haven style approach to see exactly how much better or worse off the exchequer would be. IMHO these tax havens have got it sussed, its a model that obviously works so why doesnt everyone do it, any ideas?Originally posted by Lewis View PostI don't agree with you comparison ... These places attract outside money by having lower taxes. Money they would otherwise not have! Massive amounts of tax in say Swiss cantons like Zug doesn't come from locals paying tax at all but from global organisations having operations based there purely for tax purposes (often just a plaque on a door). So the taxation of Zug residents (there aren't many) isn't actually the income generator. It's outside corporate investment paying for the roads, healthcare, police forces, fire brigades.
Although yes, these places also attract high net worth individuals who even paying low tax contribute a large amount to the local revenue. Clearly a billionaire paying only 5% tax is going to be better for a country than a £100K contractor paying 5% tax.Comment

Because it wouldn't work. The one thing Tax Havens have in common is a minimal local population to support directly from tax revenues. Once the population starts getting larger the demand for tax revenues goes up faster than they can be raised by attracting corporations or high net worth individuals. Those corporates and indivuduals who wish to locate in your haven will already have done so. To attract more you need to cut the taxation they pay which actually reduces you revenue stream and leaves you reliant on new arrivals and those residents you have not leaving. Your entire economy then depends on the business decisions of a few individuals. The only relaible way to raise revenue is to tax the native population who are far less likely to leave, especially in the numbers that would be required to make a significant inmpact on revenues.Originally posted by smalldog View PostYes and look at how much investment there is in the UK and imagine how much more there would be given a more relaxed tax regime. If people ignored the trolls they'd probably get bored and go away. The question of whether the scheme was \ was not legit is now meaningless imo.Originally posted by BrilloPad View PostThis has all got a bit

However, to get back on track, does anyone know whether MP were able to send all the relevant accounts to HMRC by the deadline?
There was a suggestion a few pages back that MP would be issuing a communication to all the relevant contractors. Yet again todate, I've received nothing from MP about the current situation except an email regarding some questions I asked a week or so ago.
Is it so hard for them to keep us in the loop?I couldn't give two fornicators! Yes, really!
