and to make matters even worse i've now talked to maybe 10 different depts at HMRC and they keep just palming me off so i'm confused and ever so slightly cheesed off. Please HELP!
Basically i've quit my job and i leave on the 2nd April having toiled through 3 months notice. I'm starting my new job as a "contractor" on the 7th of April but i can't figure out if i'm actually still an employee really or a true contractor and need to set-up a ltd company etc. My new employers basically want to put me through their pay-roll with all the usual deductions and don't want me to invoice them as then they'd incur VAT which they cannot claim back. So bottom line they will be sorting out my tax rather than me having to figure it out which to me sounds like i'm an employee... but i won't be getting any benefits etc like a pension and i don't have any security as such so once my 6 months is up i'm out the door so doesn't that make me a contractor? So what am i? I don't want Mr tax man knocking on my door so i want to get this right and if you can help i'd really appreciate it.
