Your a fixed term PAYE contractor.

Your pay carries on as before, they deduct PAYE at source.

You don't need to worry about invoices or VAT. You do not need to give them.

Next time start a Ltd. However for this contract just go PAYE then if you get another go Ltd otherwise its not worth the cost/hassle.
    Wot he said.

It sounds like a fixed term PAYE contract. He will get payslips with all the appropriate deductions sorted*.

*assuming that he gives them his P45 from the previous job and the payroll people are reasonably competent.

Sounds like you're on a fixed term PAYE contract. Temporary worker would be a better description than contractor in your case.

    Right i'm just confused...

and to make matters even worse i've now talked to maybe 10 different depts at HMRC and they keep just palming me off so i'm confused and ever so slightly cheesed off. Please HELP!

Basically i've quit my job and i leave on the 2nd April having toiled through 3 months notice. I'm starting my new job as a "contractor" on the 7th of April but i can't figure out if i'm actually still an employee really or a true contractor and need to set-up a ltd company etc. My new employers basically want to put me through their pay-roll with all the usual deductions and don't want me to invoice them as then they'd incur VAT which they cannot claim back. So bottom line they will be sorting out my tax rather than me having to figure it out which to me sounds like i'm an employee... but i won't be getting any benefits etc like a pension and i don't have any security as such so once my 6 months is up i'm out the door so doesn't that make me a contractor? So what am i? I don't want Mr tax man knocking on my door so i want to get this right and if you can help i'd really appreciate it.
Working...
