Managing my accounts online - anyone doing this?

I've been looking around for a website that will help me manage my day-to-day accounts online. Basically I want a replacement for the [cr*ppy] spreadsheets provided by my accountant. I'd like it to be online so that I can use it when I'm out and about, not just at home.

My goal is to move away from my current [cr*ppy] accountants and either manage my accounts myself, or have another accountant assist me in a limited way.

I came across Free Agent Central (http://www.freeagentcentral.com/) a few weeks ago and signed up. To be honest it's pretty good. I have a much better idea of what my tax liabilities are for the coming year, for one thing.

The only problem I have right now with Free Agent is the cost - £25/month. Granted, it's probably worth the money for the time it saves me and peace of mind, but still, I find it a bit steep when I add on the cost of my other accountancy services.

Has anyone used Free Agent or found another online system? Do you think it's worth it?

Anyway, that's about a third of what an accountant charges, but you have to add in your own time at whatever your charge rate is for doing the donkey work plus the same again to value the time off you are not getting by doing company work, so it may not be as cheap as you think (in my case the accountant saves me around £500 a year on that basis). However those that do use it seem pretty happy.

Anyway, that's about a third of what an accountant charges...

Good point about taking my own time into account. I already have an accountant that's charging £80+/month, and I don't think they do very much for the money. In total with Free Agent, that puts my costs up to over £100/mo. A little bit steep. Hence my reasons for looking around.

Have you heard of e-plan? It is an online solution from a firm of Chartered Accountants called planIT services.

It's a bit more expensive but includes all accountancy services as well - so you would not need to pay an accountant separately.

To be fair Anna hasn't tried to hide the fact that she is working for Plan IT Services so I would say the spam tag is a little bit harsh.

How about using the Google Spreadsheets? I've got one set up that it password protected so that both I and my accountant can get to it and of course it's hosted by them , so available anywhere.

An alternative could be www.inniaccounts.co.uk which is an online accountancy service. They currently have an offer which is £49 per month for which you get support of their accountants and your admin & accounts online.
