    Thanks for the advice

Well DP you were quite brutal, not every-one is as technically trained as you maybe. I am still quite new to testing, so if you didn't have several programming languages and the right amount of experience you were doomed. Also there were about 90 applicants to every job vacancy.

To MrRobin, LOL! If I did sell Sub Prime loans, I'd have been given a golden good bye and been a millionaire by now!!!

To the other guys with the useful advice, yes SJD are my accountants, although I think they are really only interested in whether I have paid their fees or not. i do owe all those various taxes and i am quite worried as working as a permanent employee, I am not rolling in it. Are there any week-end testing roles available?

      Not a developer

I'll also add that I am a Manual tester, not Developer God
Wish I was though, coz then I obviously won't be in this position!

This thread may give a clue why you are in this position:

BTW loads of people on this forum aren't developers

Well if I was you, I would make sure I knew what I actually owed, if that requires you to pay an account a few quid get it done. When you know what you owe have a look at ways of rising the money, may be sell your car if you have one, look at getting a loan may be. If you scant raise all of the £ talk to the HRMC and tell them you have diffculty paying and see if you can come to some arrangement.

All in all if you ever intend to work in finance sector again you have to avoid bankruptcy at all costs as no bank would take you on, in my time Ive made offers to at least 4 applicants who accepted and then failed the credit check, they wont over look the credit check no matter how good you are.

Must say that as a manual tester as well i haven't really seen any downturn in the last year. How fixed is the location that you are looking for work?

I had to stay in London, coz of studies. So this limited my scope, I know.

                As limited goes, that isn't.

Surely there must have been something going in London in 9 months?

Blumfluff has got some good advice, whatever you do dont apply for bankrupcy or you will find it nigh on impossible to work in the contracting market let alone as an employee.Get the accountants to get you uptodate and if you cannot pay the IR or Vat in one go ask if you can pay what you owe in installments, same goes for your accountant as I bet they would rather have the money in bits and pieces than not at all.
                      Good luck
sorry Diver I'm off the cigs again
