    Removal Expenses

If you run your own Ltd Co from home and move, can you claim a % of the removal costs through the Co? I tried to split the costs 50/50, between personal & Co funds, and my Accountant said no way - that because virtually all the costs were to move personal effects, then I couldn't put anything through the Co. My argument is that if a Ltd Co moves registered office - which is what I have done - even though my Client is elsewhere, then I should be able to charge some sort of % to the Co. Any thoughts?

You've paid a professional to give you advice, why not

    (a) listen to him, or
    (b) get rid of him if you don't like the advice

Look on the HMRC website under removal expenses and it will tell you exactly what your accountant said.

      Sorry, its just tough
Plan A is located just about here.
If that doesn't work, then there's always plan B

        Specifically:

Part II Schedule 11A ICTA 1988
To qualify for the £8,000 exemption the removal expenses and benefits must be eligible expenses and benefits (see SE03108) and must also satisfy a number of conditions.

Change of sole or main residence
The most important condition is that the employee must change his/her sole or main residence as a result of

        starting a new employment; or
a change of the duties of his/her employment; or
a change of the place (or normal place), where the duties are performed.

You're not starting new employment, you're not changing the duties of your employment, and, you're not changing the place where the duties are performed.

Now, if you were to get a contract in another part of the country, then you might find you're eligible if you move closer to the client.
Down with racism. Long live miscegenation!
