Christmas/company event allowance

    It is a touch early, but as it appears that the event doesn't have to be Christmas related then no time like the present. Plus I originally brought it up as I wanted to use some of the allowance for a shopping trip for the wife.

        Hope so - one other question that I'm not sure we answered is does it run calendar year, or company year?

        I haven't spent anything yet this year, and the company year ends at the end of November, so if I can squeeze some more money out, I will!

          I believe it's company year.

          But that was told to me by the same accountant.

          Not my accountant I hasten to add, my mates wife who has just qualified as an accountant.

          I know where my questions will be going in the future....

            Would it be acceptable to have a company event/party at the horse racing.
            The company could pay for the entrance tickets, meal, and hotel that night ?

            I'm thinking about using the remainder of the allowance for a day out at Cheltenham '08.

            Can anyone see any problems with it ?

              So following on.... London recommendations? Last year I went to the Pont de la tour in St Katherines Dock and it was RUBBISH. overpriced wine list and overcooked food.

              There are the obvious ones; Ivy, Oxo tower, claridges etc, but some new ones would be good. I went to the Blue Elephant in Fulham a few years back - that was quite nice (and an easy place to drop 100 a head)

                What you describe is fine; but AFAIK it can only be one event per year, so I'm not sure what you mean by "the remainder of the allowance"

                  This definately could be done in the past.

                  When I was in my first permie role many a year ago, the company always had 2 "do's", a Christmas and a Summer one.

                  For the summer one they took us to York races, we had to make our own way there but the company paid for Entrance, Meal and Hotel. On one particulary profitable year they also paid for all drinks and gave us 20 quid to bet with!

                    I'm guessing you have no knowledge of the tax status of these events though?!

                      The allowance is per employee per year. It can be as many events as you like as long as you don't exceed the allowance.
