Don't want the new company to see that I was let go

    Hi all,

I was always working in a permanent role, and decided to do contracting.
My first role in a contract basis was for a company for 3.5 days. We had a disagreement on the rate so in the middle of the 4th day, the manager told me that he had to let me go, because he thought that I would leave for another better rate.

I have not signed anything with them, or being paid for these 3.5 days of work. (My agent is chasing them on that).

When I go to do my next contract I don't want my future employer to see that this company fired me (obviously I do not have this company on my CV).
How can I make sure that the new company will not see that I was fired ?

    Many thanks all.

I don't understand ho anyone will ever find out about this if you don't put it on your CV. Am I missing something?

Don't I have to give the new company a P45 from my last employer or such similar form?

do you get a p45 from your plumber from his last job?

If you're a contractor you are not emplyed by the company, you are either emplyed by your own limited company or an umbrella company, in which case that emplyment status carries on regardless of any work be done at the time

          You made me smile

I am just trying to think what papers/forms I will have to give to my new employer so I can start the new contract.

I will be using an Umbrella company for getting the salary in and all that...

Is there any way that the new company can find out that I was fired from my last job and that I only worked for them for 3.5 days?

Yep - suggest you read one of the beginners' guides to contracting. There are some on CUK - I found the ones on the SJD accountancy webiste very good, and they're free to non-customers. I ws in the same state of blissful ignorance as you a few months ago, but you need to understand contracting PDQ. Good luck.

Unless you tell them there should be no reason for them to find out. Just erase your last contract from history but learn from it - get the rate sorted out before you start.

And remember - it's not a new employer. Your employer is the umbrella and your contract is with an agency (or the company if you go direct). A P45 is nothing to do with them so no-one will ever know.

                  Phew, that's ok then.

How about if I get permanent role though? Will I have to give this new company my P45? Will they find out that way?

                  Thank you all

Remember - the Umbrella is your employer now - so they will issue a P45 when you leave.
