    P45

If memory serves, you can tick a box on a P45 (or similar) to stop the next employer seeing that sort of thing... I think.

Anyway, I doubt very much that Mavis in Payroll is likely to be a Poirot-like sleuth, geared-up to catching people out, when she's probably on a midge's above minumum wage.

    Blag it.

Your employer is your umbrella company not the end client.

The fact you were only at a clients for 3.5 days is not important, you were never employed by the client, you were providing them a service through your umbrella company.

Your length of service will be from the day you started with your umbrella company until the day you leave it, 1 Job, no matter how many end clients you do work for through them.

(Let's see if it end up in the right thread this time....)

I think they will be able to see that I did not pay much tax because I have only worked for 3.5 days, no? (I had a year out so no other payments were received during the financial year). And that way they might figure out that I only worked for a short amount of time somewhere..
The main point is - why does the umbrella care?

They aren't going to be showing your P45 / P60 around anywhere else - if they do, then you need a different umbrella!!

Or setup your own limited company.

I think you're worrying unnecessarily about it - if it's not on your CV, and you are working for yourself or an umbrella, then no-one will care what your last permie job paid you. If you are taking a new permie role with a new employer, then it's very different though.

there are no names addresses or dates on it for the days you've worked...!

i never give the P45 in to new employeers when i am a permie

They will find that out anyway on submission of a P60.

Remember - the Umbrella is your employer now - so they will issue a P45 when you leave.

Is there any way that the new company can find out that I was fired from my last job and that I only worked for them for 3.5 days?
And remember - it's not a new employer. Your employer is the umbrella and your contract is with an agency (or the company if you go direct). A P45 is nothing to do with them so no-one will ever know.

Unless you tell them there should be no reason for them to find out. Just erase your last contract from history but learn from it - get the rate sorted out before you start.

If you're a contractor you are not emplyed by the company, you are either emplyed by your own limited company or an umbrella company, in which case that emplyment status carries on regardless of any work be done at the time
Yep - suggest you read one of the beginners' guides to contracting. There are some on CUK - I found the ones on the SJD accountancy webiste very good, and they're free to non-customers. I ws in the same state of blissful ignorance as you a few months ago, but you need to understand contracting PDQ. Good luck.
