When I was near Heathrow, though a bit further south, I found Travelodge to be cheapest without being an absolute dive. Full online booking and good discounts if you book in advance.

Daily Rate (inc enough to cover expenses) (z) = Outcome
I prefer the second as if I can find it cheaper then its all good, also if I can't them its not (IR35 risk pointer?). Also if I can drive it once or twice a week then I'm quids in.

Second for me every time, assuming that the expenses are likely to be static - which in your case they are. You want £z to do the job at that location, so your quoted rate should be £z.
Normally, client's pay the same rate to everybody regardless of their personal travel arrangements. The fact that this is an away from home gig is the contractor's problem, not the client's.
If he thinks you're going to turn the job down, the agent might be prepared to pay a bit over the odds out of his margin, but I doubt that there is going to be 100 quid a day available.
I've used the high cost of hotels in an area to negotiate a higher rate with the agent come renewal time. Even though I was sharing a flat with a fellow contractor at the time.

Agreed - which is why I would quote a single inclusive rate.
I'm over at Heathrow on contract. I don't currently stay over, but I did look at the options as I may need to on occasion. The Bluebelle Mansion looks OK for a small B&B and the rate is pretty modest. Anyone stayed there?
