    ICO fees up 30%

    Crikey. Just got my ICO data protection racket renewal email.

    Last year, £40. This year £52.

    Technically I assess as being exempt but you always wonder if they'll come a-knocking if you cancel your registration.

    Their website says nothing about the fee increase and, with miraculous timing, the renewal email says that a new fee structure comes into place on 17 Feb, the day before my registration has to renew.

    I checked my FA account to see the amounts I have previously paid and it was £40 yearly from 2018, however 30% seems a steep increase.

    I look forward to your all knowing and likely sarcastic and unhelpful reply.

      Ouch! I saw that you can get £5 off if you pay by direct debit, but it's still a lot.

        Yeah, so I'm going from £35 to £47 which is actually more than a 30% increase

          I've decided to register with the ICO. (Similar to ladymuck, MyCo should be exempt, but I'll err on the side of caution.)

          Looking at the "Nature of work" box, I was surprised not to see a general option for "Information Technology". (The closest general option was "IT Support/Helpdesk".)

          Going through the list in more detail, the options include:
          * Airline
          * Ambulance Service
          * Barking Mad Franchisee
          * Barrister

          One of these things is not like the others! I'm not sure why that particular franchise (something to do with dog sitting) is treated as a special case. Ditto for "Green Thumb Ltd Franchisee" (for lawn care) later in the list. Maybe they used to allow free text, and this is based on all previous answers?

          There's no option for "Contractor", so I went with "Consultant" as the closest option.
