This does now seem to be getting personal. Not suite sure what you have against us Rhino and Fiddle, and why you think it is up to you to launch some sort of embittered campaign against us. You are not, never have been, and I'd guess never will be clients, so it really doesn't affect you what we charge. I do know you have a vested interest in recommending your accountant as they pay you for referalls.

We are totally up front with all our clients, new and old, and no one has ever received a bill from us for anything they have not been forewarned about, and given the choice about.

I don't think this is personal Simon. It does seem hard to justify fees of £125 given the simplicity of registering and filing on a purely time spent basis - would you agree?

If yes, then at least people know that what you're charging them for is the luxury of forgetting about this issue - and paying a premium for that luxury.

This is nothing personal at all. If you take the effort to actually read what has been posted you will see that we object to any accountant charging outrageous fees for a very simple service.

In fact our own recommended accountant has told us that they are planning to charge £100+VAT and we object to that too.

There is nothing personal about www.************.co.uk/?olf=1 it is aimed at all greedy payroll agents who see the government's (misguided) largess as an opportunity to grab large sums of money from their client. Just how long does it take some clerical worker to complete this simple form? After that my bet is that the payroll package just wants a tick in a box to do the filing - even if it didn't and had to be done manually the charge seems excessive. Given most contractors are stupid and lazy I'm sure that many accountants will do quite nicely out of this but mine won't get a penny piece from me for it. In fact the mistrust this has generated between me and them means I will be looking very hard to find an alternative. You are quite right in your assumption that it will not be you though.

One pertinent fact to mention in your guide is don't forget to make a note of the stupid user number they allocate you. Otherwise when the pin turns up a week later and you have forgotten it you have to ring 'em up and find out they can't reissue it. Then they have to cancel the registration and you have to do it all again.

Also they seem to have a slightly annoying habit of sending out reasonably illegilble pins having registered for all the paye stuff, corporate filing, vat . So it's a bit of hassle when things go wrong but not too much effort.

Still haven't found a way of changing my user id for "GXP88QWZXYB" or whatever though.

I did my personal self assessment online so I'm used to their crap.

I'm writing down every step - Rhino did his no probs in about 5 minutes. The stupid goddam system refuses to accept my values (taken direct from last years P35 as it happens) I'll be waiting till my accountant gives me the correct values or failing that (because we've had a very heated email exchange with them and they may have the @rse about it) I'll phone them up on the helpline.

It will certainly be more work for me than it would be for the accountant as I can only register online rather than just post off a simple form but there is no way I'm going to enrich the opportunistic greedy b@stards.

You are charging £125 + VAT for a service that should be free and have ignored repeated requests to explain the reasoning behind this.
It would be convenient to dismiss our opposition to this as personal but unfortunately we are not interested in this fantasy especially when we have the same issue with our own accountant.
I have absolutely no personal problems with you at all - this is a professional matter which quite frankly you are handling very badly. May I respectfully suggest you either justify the charge or withdraw it.

Simon - this is becoming ridiculous because you are making it so.

If I were able to charge at the rate £125.00 + VAT for five minutes unskilled work I would have retired years ago.

I pay an accountant substantially more than my contract rate to do my accounts because I am not confident I could do the job. Having said that I am so unhappy about this whole issue that I may well end up doing my own accounts.

I am confident I do my job well for a very modest contract rate and my employer hires me on a contract and is quite at liberty to replace me with any Tom, Dick or Harry should he choose. As for *******, Autobits and the accountancy referrals on ************.....Fiddle and I make a very small amount of money that would work out at well under the minimum wage for the hours we put in.

It seems that you are now trying to discredit Fiddle and I in order to justify your charges for online PAYE. I wonder what comes next - perhaps as a major advertiser on CUK you may wish to ask them to ban us, if you haven't already done so.

Incidentally, why are you holding yourselves out to be some kind of contractors spokesperson when your colleague earlier in this thread described "most contractors as stupid and lazy"?

Well I don't think I'm any sort of spokesperson and nor sfaik does Rhino.

I think your mention of 99% agreeing to cough up that amount of money for a trivial amount of work goes some way at least to proving my point about many contractors being pretty naive. Possibly stupid and lazy was the wrong phrase but I don't spend all day finessing my posts as I'm sure many already have noticed.
