De-registering in Germany / Hessen

...derigistering is very simple. You simply go to the local "Anmeldeamt" and deregister (abmelden). You can also do it by post. It should have been the last thing you did before leaving Germany.
Search for "Anmeldeamt" or Anmelden/Abmelden in the web.
...aha if you haven't left Germany then it maybe possible to declare your self as a "Steuerausländer". Then you need to go and prove that you're living and working elsewhere and liable for tax. Whether you can do that will depend on where your working and how long etc. etc. I don't think there is a standard form for this. My local tax office told me to do this because I work in Switzerland, but when I worked in Luxembourg I still declared my earnings in Germany.
