    Relocation costs

I am moving from New Zealand to Bristol for a new contract. I have been in NZ for five years and want to know if I can claim relocation costs for this huge move.

How do I do this if I am limited or do I use a brolly for the first few months?

Thanks for the link but are there any specific details on what can be covered? Can my flight over be covered if the I incorporate the day that I fly? What if I have to go back and pack my stuff because it took time to find a place?

I was more looking for actual examples of what people have done.

Personally I don't see any justification for claiming anything. Your (currently non existent) Ltd Co is not forcing you to move.

You can’t claim anything, otherwise we’d all be claiming for every house move.

Exactly. I recently moved from Essex to Rural Lincolnshire (part of the pre retirement 5 year plan). I asked my accountant if there were any business relocation expenses I could reclaim. The response was no, as it is not my Ltd Co that is forcing me to move.

In context of the Ops Q. There is nothing preventing his company operating from New Zealand whilst servicing a contract in the UK.

in which case he could claim the commute [NZ to UK] for day 1 and forget to use the return ticket!!

But what about a brolly? One of my buddies got paid the 8K allowance when he moved here. They paid for the letting agent and two weeks of hotel accomodation. But he was permy. They bought his airfare too. They wanted him to pay it back when he left them after realising he was underpaid and could make 150% than what he was makeing, but thats another story.

So who can take advantage of the relocation costs? Not even if you are under a brolly?

I think there may be a fundamental misunderstanding here about who actually pays for contractor expenses (not that it would be allowable anyway.)

                  The rules are here

                  https://www.gov.uk/expenses-and-bene...n/whats-exempt

Which of these do you think applies to your situation?

"These are only qualifying costs when:

a new employee is moving area to start a job with you"

I am in NZ. I am moving to the UK to start employment with the umbrella. I have a signed contract with myself and the umbrella. I am a new employee moving to start work. I cannot substitute someone else. etc. so it has to be. I need an expensive plane ticket in order to start.

Anyhow, any brollies that can do this, feel free to get in touch
