When I first used this site I realised I was being charged way more than "market force" prices at CK, almost double in fact for a really rubbish service that "forgot" to inform me when I should be paying HMRC on a few occasions, even at one point emailing my wife who never uses her email account. That created a fine for me FOC for none payment of VAT... Try to keep up eh? I thought I was paying for an all in one service, but every time I called it was a different person I spoke to. Since I left I've discovered that some things just were never done...

It pays to do some research first, but different industry, different suggestions. I eventually went to Dynamo because Darren answered all my questions, did the papaerwork, let me play with Freeagent for a couple of weeks, told me how to deal with the transfer. Lot's of offers from CK to retain me but they were simply too expensive for a company that from my point of view appears to use a lot of trainees?

With Dynamo Emails are answered within hours, minutes usually, and FreeAgent is a Construction Site Manager's dream application. So easy. I don't expect Darren to do everything for me, but whereas CK wanted to charge me £150 to do my Tax return, Dynamo included it in the service. There's the difference.

        Offski

I have been with InTouch pretty much since they started up. In my opinion/experience they are a shadow of what they started out as. I have very simple accountancy needs, 12 invoices per annum, was on flat rate VAT with straight forward expenses, I occasionally need some advice, but have had to constantly chase for replies and I often give up. Fees were £75/month (exc VAT) when I started out, soon to be £112 (exc VAT).

There is no pro-active account management and the knowledge of the personal accountants is limited. I have told my personal accountant this directly and also communicated this feedback via their survey and yet they still raise their prices, probably to service the new premises they moved to. At the end of the day I am inputting all of the data to the portal/database and they are just running a few macros at their end, not worth £1344/annum in my opinion.

I have an appointment with a local accountant next week and will be leaving ASAP.

Will the local accountant be cheaper?

I use QDOS. Ben Surtees-Smith. Very good price and service.

I looked into local accountant when InTouch last raised their fees. They were about £600-£750 for the year for the same level of service, they were not supposedly specialist Contractor accountants though, but like I said the advice that I have received from InTouch has been limited.

The Accountant I am seeing next week have a contractor section on their website and I will discuss their service/price when I meet them, going forwards I would also have the option to pop in as they are approx 1 mile from home. If that doesn't work out I will check out your recommendation, so thanks for that.

I've not had to meet my accountant in 8 years so I wouldn't use locality as a deciding factor personally.

Likewise, however there have been times when dealing with InTouch that if they were round the corner I would have gone in to put my point across face to face rather than over the phone. It's not a deciding factor more of another benefit of going local.

Free agent should be the deciding factor !

Thanks for that, will look into Free Agent after I establish fees with local accountant. Cheers.
