That's andyw's mums monthly bed sheet launderette trip you're thinking of.

There are 4(?) different types of asbestos of varying degrees of nastiness. Unless you know which you've got, and how it should be removed, I'd not touch it.

Back in the dim and distant past when I was at school, you got your own little personal asbestos sheet for science classes. Carried it about in your school bag too

I'm still waiting for asbestosis from playing around in some old garages built of the stuff when I was a kid, where there were lots of broken panels/tiles.

These days the equivalent risk to lung disease/cancer may be microfibre, carbon fibre, silica dust, ... anything with small enough particles to get deep into the lungs where the normal mucus protection is useless.

          Ain't tech wonderful.
Maybe tomorrow, I'll want to settle down. Until tomorrow, I'll just keep moving on.

have you rung (rang?) your council? They may well take it as domestic waste for free. I did a few years ago and all they asked was that I booked it in and double-bagged it.

Hope so, or the vehicles that cause the air pollution. They're easier to spot.
