Regular vs. Specialize IT Accountants

Hi All,

As the title says... What's the different between a regular and a specialized IT accountant?

I have seen in various threads in here people suggesting that we go with a specialized IT accountant.

What would they offer more compared to a regular one? Any special bits that IT contracting has that require special care?

If this has been answered before, feel free to send me the link to do some read up.

Erm, well they are specialized so focus purely on contractors so much more in tune with what we do. A regular guy will deal with different types of business and personal accounts etc so won't be as clued up on IR35, 24 month rule and so on. It's likely they just as qualified so will be able to do it, they just don't do it day in day out.

Also the specialized lot will have better tools tailored to us as well, portals, FA, speadsheets. It's worth them spending the time on them. One man bands may not have these tools. My first accountant didn't and a thread recently with someones accountant not handing his stuff over tells me he didn't either.

Any question you ask a contractor accountant they will have had before, generic guys might have to do a bit of digging... and so on and so on....

I got screwed over by a generic guy so specialized all the way for me.

I use a regular accountant who has a number of IT contractors on their books as well as other client types, as opposed to one of the nationwide accountants that most on here seem to use and seem to specialise in IT contractors only.

This is what the OP means.
