leaving an acgency and going direct

I am having communication issues with an agent that is putting me forward for a job.

Am I able to tell the agent to retract my application and go direct instead?

If I did what implications are there?

    Thanks
    Matt

Unlikely you would be able to. Client's are bound to their contract with the agency once they've sent your CV on (assuming they have your approval). A client would not be able to hire you direct if they have made the introduction.

It's kind of the foundation of recruitment agencies.

Can you give some more information about what stage you're at in the interview process? CV sent, interview, offer?

Also clients use agencies to do away with having to deal with contractors so even if you approach clients directly in many cases the client will just push you to the agent anyway.

I'm assuming you aren't getting the feedback or information from the agent you are expecting, which isn't unusual.

I have agreed for the agent to represent me and he has sent my CV to the company, that was last Wednesday.
Since then I have sent linked in messages and emails with no response, I have called and usually the receptionist saying, "he's in a meeting", "I'll get him to call"

I have checked the company's website that I'm applying for and they're advertising the role on there website.

Even if it's feedback like 'the manager hasn't had time to look over it yet' or 'its a no'. I'm getting nothing and wondering if potentially I'm going to miss out on my perfect job

Have you been contracting for long? Likely that the agent was fishing for CVs and the role is fake. I might be wrong but if he hasn't contacted you then it's likely that you haven't got the job,

Either way keep looking for other roles

Yep I figured so. First off its a short term gig not all job and you shouldn't be pinning your hopes in it being perfect. You are going to be there for 6 months or so. It's just one of many you will do in years to come....

And because you think it's perfect you are getting over eager and losing sight of what am agent cares about. Himself. Once the CV has left your outbox you are done. Move on. The gig will either appear or it won't. You can do very little chasing it. The agent isn't going to risk pissing off the client to chase him, he's supplied some CVs so the client will get back to him when they are good and ready. If you are the right person for the role the agent will be in touch, if you aren't, he won't.

I think you've gotten too close to this one and been over eager. Apply, attempt communication, it didn't happen, move on and keep applying.

That's assuming it's not a CV farming exercise but you should have been able to pick up enough clues to know.

If there is no respond, there is no gig. Like NUK wrote, move on and keep applying.

So all you needed is patience.

My longest introduction to getting a contract was 18 months direct and 7 months through an agency.

In the first case it was due to me not being free, and in the second case the client was getting rid of one of their large suppliers who tried to take their contractors away. Unfortunately for that supplier the contract was not only read by the clients' lawyers but by some of the clients' permies actually doing the work who had deal with similar contracts before.
