Recommendations for an accountant in the Newbury area

    Hi

I've just decided to make the move into contracting. I've got a limited company setup, but am now looking for an accountant.

Any recommendations for an accountant in the Newbury area who has experience of working with IT contractors would be gratefully appreciated.

    Many thanks.

    Hi Steven

I can't recommend an accountant in Newbury, but, assuming you're operating as a typical contractor, you should consider going with a contractor accountant - they will be up to date on issues relating to contracting, and have the systems geared up to deal with your way of operating. A local accountant really isn't necessary; most of us never meet our accountant.

Speak to a few, and make a decision based on that.

Personally, I'm with InTouch; they post here regularly, and I'm very happy with their service.

    See here for other recommendations.

No need for local service. Although it can be nice to have the option of a face to face, it's seldom required.

If we assume you want to do your books online, you should decide whether you want to use a market-wife solution or whether you want to he tethered to a solution specific to your accountant. Some would argue that the accountants with their own solution are more difficult to migrate from but I've certainly not seen any evidence of this. My concern is that the solutions often seem a bit clunky and the UX isn't great. If it was me, I'd get on the Freeagent website and look at the premium partners and speak to a few of the accountants in there. Don't worry about location.

DISCLOSURE: my firm is a Freeagent premium partner so I am slightly biased.

There is really no need for a local accountant in this day and age unless you require face to face meetings which will be very rare in my experience with my clients.

It is so easy to stay in contact with telephone, email, skype, what's app etc

As long as you have a contractor specialist accountant who deals with you quires in a correct an timely fashion and tailors there service to suit you.

Speak to a few accountants and see who you get on with and what are there systems online, spreadsheet etc.

Thanks for your comments, very helpful

Will be doing some research on-line before getting in touch with a couple.

I would agree with others - no need to local.

My accountant is 200 miles away, I've never met him, never even spoken on the phone. All done via email.

BUT he provides a BRILLIANT service (cheers Danny at NW). I'll have his babies if he wants me to :-)

Warning - I had a REALLY bad experience with a local accountant before I went to NW. Lots of local guys seem to want a piece of the pie when it comes to contractors whereas in reality they are clueless. I'd stick with a specialised contractor accountant if I were you.

Would you off-set tax against said babies?

Also, is this testimonial on their website? :P

Would you really put a testimonial from PC on your webpage???????? Talk about professional suicide. I'm sure NW cringes every time PC mentions them.

Jeez NLUK. How many times? Just because I post tulipe on here at times does not mean I'm like that in real life.

As I've often said, 'I'm sure you're quite a nice guy in real life - you just like acting like an arse on an internet forum because no-one can punch you....
