The bike radar means the cyclist can turn their headphones up louder to drown out the useful noises, then rely on looking down at a screen to find out what's going on.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I've avoided the majority of accidents on foot and on bike because I am aware of my surroundings. If you cannot hear a car or other vehicle's engine then you cannot work out whether they are accelerating or going at a speed where they can brake. The fact the driver maybe an a*** and want to knock you off your bike or run you over will not make a difference whether you have radar or not.

Apologies for digging this one up but my question is in the same vein.. I am planning to buy a bike as a company asset (and yes it is almost entirely for commuting). Can my co also buy tools, parts etc and pay for repairs without incurring BIC?

It depends what you mean by tools.

I suspect yes given that H&S gear such as lights, hi-viz wear etc is all expensable (and, if you're a lady like me, a new saddle - I got a sore treasure just looking at the one that came installed as standard on my bike!)

Tools could be anything.. basic necessities such as pump and puncture repair kit but also workshop tools. If my co can pay for pro repairs then it would seem sensible to allow purchase of tools instead as this would be cheaper in most cases. Also, how about consumables - oil, tubes etc.

You can't expense expendables like tubes I can't buy engine oil or tyres for my car. However you can use the amount you claim for mileage to pay for such expendables.

In other words any safety equipment including a pump, high viz, lights and a water bottle can be directly expensed. All the rest have to come out of your mileage cost.

Tools can be used for other things so are wholly and exclusively and are not directly related to the bike so no... and arguing about a bike pump is just pointless. Just forget that idea and think of something else.

Yes. And phones.. We need them to do work so there are common sense exceptions. HMRC are well aware there maybe an element of personal use but to ease complications this is expected. It has to be some element, not the major one though. Broadband isn't allowed as the business use can be a lot less than personal. These exceptions haven't been made for bike tools.

Also a computer is used directly as part of your business. Bike tools aren't. They are to fix a perk.
