How many PSC contractors there are in the UK?? I am trying to find numbers published by Government rather than industry groups. Not sure whether someone on here may have put in a FOI request at some point.

Apparently there isn't a definition in law as to what exactly a PSC is. What do you believe a PSC is? -

Lisa,
Does this help at all ? There are various stats in there, but they look as though they may be defining "wider" than you are looking for.
https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...-release-4.pdf
"There were 1.4 million companies, of which 789,000 (56.5 per cent) had employees"
So approx 600,000 which fit the "definition" such as it is for PSC. How many of these are contracting no idea. :-(Last edited by ASB; 27 July 2015, 12:56.Comment

In terms of HMRC, your best bet is likely to be the evidence given to the HoL select committee on PSCs:

IPSE's figures were produced by independent academic research group so ought to be fairly reliable. It is, however, something of a moving target.Blog? What blog...?

Me miss! Me! Me!
According to the discussion doc (p4):
https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...n_document.pdf
The government estimates that there were around 265,000 PSCs in 2012-13, an
increase of 65,000 on the previous year alone.
May I ask why you want to know?

It's for responses that we're putting in for various HMRC consultations and discussions - oh what a fun life I lead
