Does our Charity need to register for VAT in Germany

    We are very confused
Does anyone know who we can ask-?
We are a UK based and registered Charity who every year takes aid to the children in Moldova.
Every summer we take volunteers (by Coach) to help use install toilet/baths in an orphanage
No body gets paid we work/run on donations only.
My Question is I am being told that to drive through Germany in a UK coach that is DONATED by a UK coach company for us to use to transport our volunteers to Moldova that the coach company is required to be VAT/TAX registered for the coach to pass across Germany even though its been donated FOC for the trip.

You are confusing the singular coach with the company that supplied it. What has the agreement on the way the coach was supplied got to do with the tax affairs of the company that provided it?

The coach company may have to be VAT registered (presumably only in the UK though). This could be due to the fact that in many EU countries VAT registration is compulsory for all companies - so having a valid VAT number is just a confirmation that the company is genuine.

I would very much doubt that the coach company would need to have a German VAT number though!
