    New Pension Rules & Regulations

Does anyone have a clue what's going on & what needs to be done?

I've been contributing to a pension from the limited company for a long time but I don't know if it counts & apparently I'm supposed to register something somewhere but all I can find are more pages telling me I need to register & never the actual place to do the registering (typical hmrc website stuff).

    I'm very confused.

You will receive a letter from the pension regulator with your staging date on. At this point you can then send them an email to "opt out" of the auto enrolment.

You will need to also state your Accounts office and PAYE references on the said email.

      Opt Out

      Thanks Michael.
So if I opt out, will that be that & I won't have to worry about it ever (or at least until they change the rules again)?

Until the rules change or if your company structure changes (Takes on an employee etc).

However presuming your current set up is you as director and employee then this is fine.

Here is the original pension thread http://forums.contractoruk.com/accou...enrolment.html

          Thanks

Brilliant thanks, I figured there would be a thread but couldn't find anything
I'd better work out if I've still got my letter now or if it's been eaten by a cat or small child....

Once you have the letter, you don't even need to send an email - go to the website and complete the form online and it does it for you.

Although that doesn't give you an email confirmation that it's been processed.

Web form? I must have missed that. There was a mailto: link but no worky for me, ended up cut-n-pasting text from a PDF into an email.

As an accountant I don't think I could sleep at night without confirmation it's being dealt with!

                    Sole Director exemption

I attended the presentation by pension regulator at CIMA MIP conference on Friday. Representative of regulator confirmed where there is no employment contract - they do not come under auto enrolment rules.(Page not found | The Pensions Regulator...)

If any of your client had received a letter they need to go to below link and declare them self as "NOT AN EMPLOYER" for Pensions. This does not mean company is not an employer for HMRC.

                    Thank you
