Accountant Recommendations - Solicitation accepted!

Hi All,

My business has moved beyond simple contracting and there are various issues and advice that is now required.

Many fingers in many pies and not all IT related.

In the new year I need help with closing off my year end CT600 – a guided walkthrough if you like as I usually do it myself but there are now some elements I need professional advice with.

I am also thinking of splitting up my businesses into separate LTD companies and perhaps even an offshore element (reasons to be disclosed)

I need advice on whether to do this, how to do this and where to put the assets and how to move the assets to the other companies and the impact of the CT600 elements of the asset move.

When I floated this idea - splitting my plan B into a separate, 'traditional' small company, my accountants InTouch were happy to take care of both companies with some sort of deal. I can't remember the details or if it would still stand today, but you could ask them or you could see if your existing contractor accountant is happy to do the same.

I can't say if it's better to do this than engage a local accountant for the 'regular' plan B business, initially if you can get a reasonable deal with a contractor-accountant I'd be tempted to simply to keep things simpler.

It's a tricky one, can be a fine line for accountants to cross. Inevitably to keep things simple and clear for all concerned they often have "one size" fixed pricing. On the one hand you don't want to chuck out any client doing the tiniest thing slightly out of the ordinary, but similarly you don't want to end up taking on some complex group of companies doing all sorts, for simple contractor pricing...that's before we consider whether the accountant has the relevant expertise.

We tend to just stick to what we know...probably miss out on some things we could realistically advise on, but I feel safer that way than "having a go" at stuff we really shouldn't be.
